A rare 4-day immersive workshop with internationally sought-after facilitators—your chance to learn a step-by-step regenerative agroforestry planning process and experience a transformative approach to growing food, medicine, and thriving environments at any scale.

Practices For Revitalizing Earth, Community, and Self

For the first time in modern history, there is an international movement to go beyond sustainable agriculture to grow food that continually improves soil, rain infiltration, biodiversity, resilience, and overall productivity. This perspective shift comes out of the recognition that conventional food systems are increasingly vulnerable to environmental and economic risks, while providing food of lower nutritional benefit and ever-increasing content of synthetic chemicals.

Fortunately, nature provides abundance when we work with its own regenerative principles. This workshop will provide participants with tools to work regeneratively on any site by introducing the key principles of regeneration and methods for planning, implementing, and maintaining a regenerative agroforestry planting at any scale, from home food forests to large acreages.

This interactive workshop will guide participants through a step-by-step planning process for regenerative agroforestry. The workshop also provides participants with two hands-on sessions planting food forests, invaluable practice for installing their own food forests.

What You Will Gain:

  • A clear and intuitive understanding of natural regeneration principles
  • How to apply nature’s regenerative principles to your site
  • Step-by-step planning process for a new regenerative planting
  • Options for including existing plants into a new planting
  • Best practices for plant selection, spacing, and long-term maintenance
  • Approaches for replanting and sustaining a thriving ecosystem
  • Optimizing plant health and productivity with only on-site resources
  • Human health and well-being in regenerative agriculture
  • Increased awareness of living in harmony with the natural world

Dr. Craig Elevitch is an internationally recognized agroforestry educator and author of 14 books, including Agroforestry Landscapes for Pacific Islands and Agroforestry Design for Regenerative Production. Since 1993, he has led more than 300 workshops with over 15,000 participants worldwide and was awarded the Gusi International Peace Prize (2023) for his contributions to ecological regeneration and community resilience. His work centers on creating abundant, resilient food systems rooted in regenerative practices.

Jamyang Dolma is President of the Academy of Himalayan Art and Child Development and co-founder of Mama Food Forest™. Her leadership bridges traditional wisdom with contemporary practices to empower women, families, and communities.

Together with regenerative agroforestry comes a deep reconnection with nature that is difficult to describe but can only be experienced.

  • The workshop emphasizes hands-on activities in nature, including planting food forests on two of the workshop mornings.

  • In the classroom, participants will go through the entire planning process for a regenerative food forest.

  • A well-planned and implemented food forest will grow rapidly, providing harvests after only a few weeks.

The regenerative practices we introduce in this workshop also hold the living knowledge connecting our inner regeneration with nature’s regeneration. It is a mindful and transformative process which helps us to realign our attention with intention for long-term wellbeing and inner regeneration.

In summary, participants will learn the regenerative principles, design for regeneration, and experience installing food forests, all of which are necessary for a transition to regenerative agroforestry.

Frequently Asked Questions

This workshop is for participants at all levels of experience from novices to experienced growers and for those who want to grow regeneratively at any scale, from home landscapes to large-scale farms. We encourage participants of all ages and backgrounds who have a passion for reconnecting with the natural world. The workshop will cover regeneration on sites that are open (such as a lawn or grassland) to retrofitting an existing planting to regenerative practices.

Hands-on learning is central to this workshop—just as important as the concepts we cover. Participants will install real food forests during two morning sessions at Dharma Realm Buddhist University inside the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas. These installations allow you to directly apply regenerative principles, gain practical confidence, and learn by doing in a living, evolving landscape.

Please bring work clothes suitable for both sunny and rainy weather—we will install rain or shine. Long-sleeve shirts, long pants, and sturdy work shoes are strongly encouraged. Hats and work gloves are recommended if you have them. Many participants also like to bring a change of clothes for each work session.

Installations are expected to wrap up around 11:00 am, giving you time to clean up before lunch. The workshop continues in the afternoon with indoor classroom learning on both installation days.
