50 Years of DRBU
Our goal: $500,000 by June 30, 2026
For half a century, DRBU has held open a space where wisdom is not only studied, but lived. Help us protect and preserve this education for the next fifty years.
The Buddha’s teachings have endured for over 2,500 years because joy and freedom, peace and tranquility, are fundamentally human—yet constantly in need of renewal.
As supporters of wisdom and compassion, we have a responsibility both to cultivate these qualities within ourselves and to create the conditions for others to learn and apply them, so that generation by generation, they may flourish in the world.
For 50 years, DRBU has been wholeheartedly dedicated to this mission. Founded on Master Hua’s vision, the University has remained committed to keeping this education debt-free, so that anyone who sincerely seeks it can come and study.
Our numbers may be small, but what we are doing is timeless. Protecting this education and allowing it to continue to thrive in today’s world requires ongoing support.
Not many will seek this path, and fewer still will find a place to practice it. May DRBU play a part in the great history of Buddhist education, and may the Dharma continue to be studied and practiced in this world. We invite you to join us in protecting and preserving DRBU for the next 50 years.
In their own words
“I’ve been to Princeton and Oxford, but my most important education was at DRBU.”
“Deep inside my heart I know that DRBU is going to make me a better person inside out, and that’s the prerequisite for making a difference in the world.”
“DRBU’s spiritual exercises might teach us to expand our notion of what it means to take texts seriously.”
“[DRBU Extension] retreats have transformed my life. It has given me an effective tool to manage the dramatic events of my life: the death of my mother and the miraculous recovery of my father’s COVID infection. ”

Building the Endowment
Education is without beginning or end. There is not a single location that is not a place of learning, and there is not a single moment that is not a time for learning.
