The DRBU Arts Initiative is pleased to announce the opening of three fall 2025 semester exhibitions. We invite you to encounter art as a bridge between tradition and creativity, memory and imagination, nature and human spirit. From the meditative ink paintings of Man Qianhe, to the calligraphic tributes to Murasaki Shikibu, to the vibrant textile explorations of Zwia Lipkin, each body of work offers a unique reflection on beauty, culture, and our shared search for meaning.
The exhibitions are open to the public Mondays – Fridays, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, and by appointment on weekends (DRBU Building, 5950 Proper View Avenue, Ukiah, California).
Bodhi in Ink
Bodhi in Ink features 126 paintings by Beijing artist Man Qianhe. Inspired by the Lotus Sūtra, Vimalakīrti Sūtra, and Avataṃsaka Sūtra, the paintings combine the rich visual heritage of Dunhuang murals with contemporary artistic expression. These works reflect over a decade of exploration in ink painting, where tradition and creativity meet in a meditative practice of art.
Remembering Murasaki Shikibu
Remembering Murasaki Shikibu presents the calligraphic artistry of the Art of Ink International Society. The exhibition honors Murasaki Shikibu (c. 970–c. 1019), the luminous Heian-era poet and author of The Tale of Genji. More than a millennium after its writing, her timeless masterpiece continues to inspire readers and artists worldwide.
The Nature of Textiles
The Nature of Textiles presents the quilting art of Bay Area artist Zwia Lipkin. Drawing inspiration from nature, her work explores color and texture, celebrates the enduring beauty of fabric, and reflects on the deep connection between humans and their environment.
