The DRBU Arts Initiative invites you to The Arts Workshop: Understanding Oracle Bone Script Through Seal Carving, a companion program to the current exhibition, The Year of Mindful Blessings. In this two-day workshop, students will explore the history of the 3,000-year-old oracle bone script, the precursor to modern Chinese writing. Through learning a selection of oracle bone characters, participants will gain insight into how our ancestors understood themselves, the world around them, and their relationship with the universe. We will also examine the work of several seal carvers who were inspired by oracle bone script and try our hand at designing and creating our own individual seals using this ancient writing system.

Karen Tseng draws on her Chinese heritage while engaging with the present moment, integrating Chinese and Western cultural influences in her art. She has led seal carving workshops in the Bay Area since 2020 and has taught Chinese brush painting and calligraphy at FUHSD Adult School since 2022. Her works are held in the Hong Kong Museum of Art and private collections.
