Bhikshuni Heng Hsien is a founding faculty member of the Dharma Realm Buddhist University. She is a native of California and was ordained in San Francisco in 1972, at the original Gold Mountain Monastery. As Emerita Professor, Heng Hsien Shi maintains her connections with the students and faculty of DRBU in many ways. After serving for many decades, she is an Honorary member on both the DRBA Board of Directors and the DRBU Board of Trustees, and continues to be active in the Buddhist Text Translation Society. She holds a Ph.D. in South and South East Asian Studies from the University of California at Berkeley.
