"At the onset of the SIP orders back in March, the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas immediately locked down, closing its gates to the public, and  Dharma Realm Buddhist University, whose campus is located on the property, quickly followed suite.

“Like everyone else, we had little notice,” says Susan Rounds, President of Dharma Realm Buddhist University, “and realized we were going to have to send all of our students home.”

It was a Herculean effort: buying plane tickets for those who could not afford their own, driving students to the airport, putting together packets of PPE and snacks for the plane ride, storing belongings and mailing books to students once they were settled.

The university spent spring break restructuring their mode of curriculum delivery and started up online. Finishing the semester, the first class of B.A. students graduated with an online commencement ceremony.
