• Bhikkhu Bodhi gives an overview of the Abhidhamma

Retreats and Programs from DRBUx

Jun 8, 2018

DRBU Extension offered a spring Living the Practice program, which included a month-long residence for Venerable Bhikkhu Bodhi, an American Buddhist monk who has devoted a lifetime to study, practice, and service. During the month of March, he delivered two public lectures and conducted a series of ten two-hour classes offering an overview of the Abhidhamma. The recordings are publicly available here: Based on the book A Comprehensive Manual of Abhidhamma, an annotated version of the classic text the Abhidhammattha Sangaha, the classes dealt with such topics as types of consciousness, the 52 mental factors, processes of cognition, and the development of the mind’s higher potentials. More than 80 people attended these inspiring classes.

This summer, DRBU Extension will offer a Summer Shurangama Sutra Retreat at the Sudhana Center comprised of nine days of meditation, Dharma practice, and study from June 22 to July 1. Led by Bhikshuni Heng Chih, Doug Powers, and guest lecturers, this retreat marks the 50th anniversary of the first Shurangama Sutra Study and Meditation summer program in the West, led by the Venerable Master Hsuan Hua.
