DRBU is carrying out major renovation and construction activities on its campus at the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas (CTTB). Once completed, the projects will add critically needed classroom, office, library, meditation, and meeting space, as well as introduce aesthetic focal points to the campus. They will be accessible to people with disabilities and energy-efficient, and will utilize state-of-the-art green building practices.
Here are the main projects currently underway. We invite you to help bring these to completion.
Women’s Dormitory [Phase Two]
The Women’s Dormitory is not only home to female students while they attend DRBU, but also the hub for women’s community activities. Phase One of the Women’s Dormitory renovation, which was completed in the spring of 2015, added new heating, a computer lab, a contemplation room, a laundry room, a common area, important safety features, and other upgrades. Phase Two will provide additional bedrooms, allowing the building to reach a housing capacity of 40 residents.
University Building Renovation [South Wing]
Venerable Master Hsuan Hua, who founded DRBU, designated a former hospital building on the CTTB campus to house its main educational programs. This “University Building” is one of the largest structures on the property. Nevertheless, it has sat unused for years, except by a large colony of bats.
Renovation of this building is beginning with the South Wing. This project will provide approximately 27,700 square feet of much-needed space, including eight new classrooms; additional office space for faculty and administrators; a campus store; a faculty break room; a student lounge; meeting spaces; a meditation hall; two computer labs; and temporary library space.
Science Classroom Complex
The proposed science classroom complex will be a shared facility to support programs of DRBU as well as of Developing Virtue Secondary School (also located on the CTTB property). The completed complex will include three science laboratories, one classroom, and a faculty office. The science curriculum is an integral, required element of the DRBU undergraduate program.
