With Facebook’s announcement of the “Metaverse” and the release of more realistic VR headsets, it seems the line between virtual realities and ‘IRL’ (in real life) will only become more and more blurred.
While there are still many unknowns, how might this possibility of a highly immersive virtual reality shed light on the issues of Buddhist cultivation? How might Buddhism respond to the virtual realm?
Can the self-created virtual realities help us better see our imagined constructions? Can the freedom in virtual reality help us encounter true freedom?
