DESCRIPTION:Join us for The Arts Talk: Mapping the Pathways of Huayan Buddhist Thought with Professor Ronald Y. Nakasone\, Monday\, 4/15\, 12:30-2:00pm\, at the DRBU Building second-floor lounge or online via Zoom. \nNakasone uses the metaphor of the map to trace the origins of the Buddha’s insight of pratītyasamutpāda\, its doctrinal development\, and unfolding\, demonstrating their relevance in interpreting contemporary issues. The third Huayan (Kegon) patriarch\, Fazang (643-712) formulated the Ten Subtle and Unimpeded Dharma-Gates of Pratītyasamutpāda\, a series of cognitive and affective paradigms that describe how the Enlightenment-Mind apprehends and engages the world. These Dharma-Gates\, in turn\, describe how Buddhists understand\, explain\, imagine\, and engage the world. The Buddha’s insight of pratītyasamutpāda revealed an heretofore unknown spiritual vista.
